For some reason this doesn't work in the Itch.io app.

I'm having this same problem. I dread starting the itch.io software because it slows my whole PC. Technically it still works, but I'm  usually unwilling to run it  because of this problem. For me, the high CPU usage begins immediately. I never let it run for very long because it makes my PC useless.
